Eat Your Heart Out

Many couples would agree that you can have differences in politics, religion and even income, but when it comes to food, there is little room for negotiation.   I’m not saying a hardcore vegetarian and a steak and potatoes person can’t make it work, but life is a bit easier when you and your significant other share similar preferences in food, which is where the internet steps in.  Vegetarians and single gourmets alike can now find love and full tummies on Veggie Date and NY Single Gourmet.  Veggie Date has been open for 8 years and allows members to specify themselves as “veganish” or “vegetarianish at home,” citing that most people aren’t 100% of any kind (although some are).  Some members of Veggie Date have even gotten married!

The Single Gourmet in NY site takes a different approach to food and love, by hosting dinners of up to 80 singles in a restaurant.  The Single Gourmet is by no means a matchmaking service, but some people have found love by attending the dinners and almost 200 couples have been married because of the site.

Can food really make or break a relationship?  Maybe not, but I wouldn’t want to be in a relationship where my significant other couldn’t boil water.  Then again, having differences is what makes people interesting, and you just might discover a new food or way of living you never knew you liked!
