Odd Drinks For The Next Round

I saw an article on Digg today talking about some weird and wacky drinks from around the world and it got me thinking about some wacky drinks that I've come across. Some are just wacky because of the actual ingredients while others are just odd because of the names. Here are a few from the article at DivineCaroline:

Pizza Beer

Bacon Martini:

Bacon Martini

Cucumber Pepsi:

Cucumber Pepsi

Those are just a few wacky drinks that they've stumbled upon (Bacon Martini?! sounds like a stomach-ache) but I know I've run into a few in my lifetime. A few wacky drinks that is. I have never run into any Bacon Martinis before. Apparently those can be found in Vegas.

The Cucumber Pepsi reminds me of the Crystal Pepsi they tried to have back in the 90's. It doesn't remind me of the taste per say (not that I've tried either) but Crystal Pepsi apparently looked like your average lemon-lime soda and tasted like cola so I just think Pepsi comes up with some wacky creations. Actually, so does Coca-Cola. I went to their museum down in Atlanta, GA and boy was that a sugary filled tour. You can taste all sorts of sodas from around the world. Some of the soda even shot out out of a fountain and landed in a cup in front of you from a few yards back... it was a very neat presentation.

My own personal encounters with drinks that I think are odd? Hmm...

I think these marble topped drinks will always have a place in my heart:

Marble Soda

These are carbonated drinks that are sealed with marbles (yes, like a toy marble) that you pop down into the neck of the bottle. The marble remains in the neck of the bottle while you guzzle down the carbonated content. I haven't had one of these in years but from what I can remember, they tasted like bubble-gum soda. Anyone else ever have one of these?

I recently tasted chocolate milk soda. That was interesting. It was very thick for a soda needless to say so after a few sips of that I was pretty much done.

I also tend to like to order beers that have funny names. Or rather, I make a friend say the wacky name to the bartender and order it for me. It's more fun to see them pronounce it all wrong. I ordered a beer on tap called Ten FIDY at the Hop Devil Grill one time simply because I felt like saying that. Made me feel like a rapper for a brief moment. The bartender started to fill a wine glass with a very dark stout and I almost stopped her because I thought I had ordered a red wine. After my first sip, Chinese medicinal herbs came to mind. This was the type of taste that I had always tried to avoid in my childhood years so to drink it at a bar in my leisurely time was not something I was exactly going for but after another taste, it wasn't so bad. And that wasn't the alcohol making the decision either. It just tasted a little... different and wacky is all.

Anyone else have fun and wacky drink tasting experiences? I'd love to know more about funky drinks out there. I might be daring enough to at least try one sip.

I don't have too many wacky drink stories.  Well, except for one time a friend encouraged me to try a "cement mixer," which is an uber gross concoction of lime juice and curdled Bailey's.  Ugh.  If only I knew what I was getting into.

The cucumber soda sounds interesting.  As far as the chocolate soda-- what about Yoo-hoo? They've been around for a while.

Ugh...bacon martini.

Bacon isn't really good on its own, but for some reason it's starting to invade all other foods.

finally I found someone else that is into whacky crazy drinks.  everytime I walk into an ethnic market, for better or worse I have to pick up something random and whacky, usually with an outlandish label affixed to it.  sometimes they are a delight but most often they are an acquired taste.  Italian bitter soda anyone?

The Asian market just down the way carries those glass bottles in a lot of different flavors. Two of my roommates used to live in Japan, and I lived in Thailand, so we are IN LOVE with the marble sodas. =D

I can't stand those drinks with the marbles in them.  Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but the marble always blocks the liquid and gives me drinking problems
