Tasting menus. I love tasting menus matched with wine. I think it's the best way to know a restaurant and a Chef's cuisine is by tasting as much of it as you can without hitting your wallet too badly with serveral trips to the same restaurant.

Coldplay, Radiohead, Band of Horses, Matt Pond, and other assorted independent bands.

Anything that tastes good and is prepared well
What I'm Watching
Iron Chef America, Malto Mario, hell's Kitchen, Rachael Ray, and Martha Stewart
Tastiest Libations
Mojitos, Caipirinha or excellent wine
Favorite Restaurants
Jean Georges, Michel Bras, and I so badly want to go to Per Se

I ate here on Friday, March 9, 2007, with 2 other people and it was my first time dining here, but not for my companions. Unfortunately, I tried to take a photo to post up on Yummr, but couldn't due to lack of light, so I thought I would make up for it by making a blog post on my experience. When I first entered the restaurant, I was amazed by how large it was and by the modern decor. I could tell by the people walking in and out of the place, that it was more of a scene than not, but mind you it was Friday night in NYC. I arrived late, but my friends were already there seated and waiting. I was promptly seated shortly after my arrival and was told that by my friends that they had ordered a pitcher of sangheria, which was perfect to what I was feeling for the night; sangheria, not actually a cocktail and not actually wine, but all fun and unpretentious.
We talked and played catch up on our lives and decided to start with guacamole, which was made table side on a gauridon in a traditional stone bowl. I am always a sucker for table side service and find it as an amazing touch for a restaurant, especially on a first date; until you receive the bill and calculate that you're paying 4 times the amount for just 1-2 avocadoes with some herbs and peppers being mixed together. I really don't know why I get opposed to paying that much for guacamole, but I do, and I know I've over paid for other easy to prepare items and probably didn't feel a bit upset as I do with this service.
We then ordered our entrees, which I felt like having fish. I orded the Chilean sea bass served with spinach or some other green leafy vegetable, with sunchokes and a chili sauce. Sorry for not remembering exactly, but I guess that's the point, it wasn't memorable. Though I did remark to myself that the bass had a really nice gold sear on it ahd the presentation was nice, so I thought it had potential of tasting good. I was slightly disappointed to say the least and forgot to mention that the food wasn't hot; tepid at best. My two other friends had more spanish faire foods, like the chicken enchilladas with salsa verde, which both commented on as being good.
We then finished the evening with an interesting sounding special dessert, which we split. It was a tomatillo and winter fruit cobbler served with vanilla ice cream. It tasted pretty good, but a little too sweet for my taste. You really can't fault them because it's really hard to not making a cobbler style dessert not sweet. I think it has to do with the double cooking. Making the fillling, then baking it in the over for the crusty cobbler topping.
So just to wrap up, I would go back, but not really for the food and if I wanted to have better food with table side gaucamole, i'd go to Charritos in Hoboken; if I didn't mind the commute. I am sure there are other upscale Mexican restaurants out there, but I don't know them and the cost of the food compared to a tacoriais probably the reason why I stay away from the. I will plug in again the value and food quality of Charritos in Hoboken; it's really good for what you pay, with as chic decor.
