Interests

Tasting menus. I love tasting menus matched with wine. I think it's the best way to know a restaurant and a Chef's cuisine is by tasting as much of it as you can without hitting your wallet too badly with serveral trips to the same restaurant.

What I'm Listening to

Coldplay, Radiohead, Band of Horses, Matt Pond, and other assorted independent bands.

Favorite Foods

Anything that tastes good and is prepared well

What I'm Watching

Iron Chef America, Malto Mario, hell's Kitchen, Rachael Ray, and Martha Stewart

Tastiest Libations

Mojitos, Caipirinha or excellent wine

Favorite Restaurants

Jean Georges, Michel Bras, and I so badly want to go to Per Se

Most coveted item

Excellent Wine like a 1978 Chateaux Reyes Chateneauf de Pape

Vive la France..

Bon jour,

Today is Bastille Day, the day of French Independence and a day to celebrate great things in French culture like food, wine, cheese, and dance.  In NYC on Sunday, the annual street fair commenced in grand fashion, bringing great traditional foods like crepes, baguettes with country pate and gerkins, regional wines of France and great French pastries.

Numerous restaurants also came to celebrate their heritage like Payard, Bec Fin (not to be confused with La Bec Fin) and Bouchon. Payard had a glorious selection of fine pastries, along with other savory delights for those who didn't have a sweet tooth on a warm summer day.

Walking inside the street fair, as packed as it was, you could hear beautiful conversations with the tones of the French accent or in language itself.  Reminds me of Paris and makes me appreciate the great city of NY and there is really no place like it, except maybe Paris.

Au revoir,

Madrico,

Cheers to you for taking the time to celebrate the French Independence day...sounds like the street fair in New York was wonderful.  Here in DC, there are a few French restaurants that have traditional events and parties, such as a "Waiter Race" and various tasting menus.  The French Embassy also joins in the celebration, usually with a fancy event like a black tie dinner or ball.

One minor correction, though:  Bastille Day is July 14th - it was Saturday, not today.

Merci..

Thanks for the correction and that is what I thought. For some reason, when I searched for the times of the street fair and Bastille Day 2007, it said the 16th of July for Bastille day, but the fair was celebrated on Sunday.

I guess I got confused.
