Flo's Hotdogs

March 30 - Flo's Hotdogs is a legendary hot dog stand on route 1 in Maine. It is famous for it's steam hot dogs with hot sauce on top. When you walk in, articles of the establishment from Gourmet and some woman's fashion magazine adore the walls, but what you really notice is the abundant amount of locals crammed into the tiny place. My friend and I honestly were the only tourists that found it's way into the cramp building the size of a small school bus. When I was there for lunch I counted 16 customers in 10 minutes, many ordering 2-6 dogs per person. Following the local's lead, not knowing what I was doing I ordered a dog, the "house way", smeared with a bit of mayo, and doused in it's sweet, spicey relishy hot sauce. I am not a fan of steamed, or boiled hot dogs. I want m dogs grilled, broiled, or deep fried. This just once I'll admit it was a damn fine boiled dog with an amazing snap. I couldn't identify the company of the hot dog, but it was superb. Any lesser hot dog and the experience would have been subpar, despite the excellent sauce. Two thumbs up and definitely worth a stop if your going up route 1.
